I get several calls per month from people who see my vehicle with the name “Big Fish” written on the side. People will call and ask, “what is Big Fish?” I will reveal for the first time in public, why I named the company Big Fish, and why we are different than any other service company and the big goals I have in store.
Sometime last year, after a period away from the cleaning and maintenance business, I got back into the business. At the time, I lived in the lakes area of Minnesota, near Brainerd. I love to fish, but I am not a pro, or even a very good amateur for that matter, but the time I spent fishing with my son was priceless. It still is, and my son is the inspiration for the company name, he wanted to catch the “big fish”.
About this same time, I saw a movie that I find both inspirational and a metaphor for the company, apty named “Big Fish” see the trailer below. The movie is about determination, not giving up, living life to the fullest and family. All values I put in high regard. So, out of all this, I named the company Big Fish Service Company, and we were off. I also added the tag line or catch phase, “Let Us Handle The Chores While You Relax” Since this sums up what we do, it was appropriate in lakes country since most people relax there by fishing. Many do as well here in Fargo, ND.
The name, Big Fish, is a symbol for many things. Spirituality among other things, and Fish is also plural, so as the company grows, the name will be appropriate for all the fish in the company. For now, I operate with my friend and one or two others on larger jobs, and if we grow bigger great, if not, that is fine too.
Perhaps that seems a little too deep, but, its my company and I’ll do and say what I want
