Some Fargo-Moorhead homeowners are skeptical about getting their dryer vent cleaned out. This is because they cannot see into their ductwork to determine if it is full of lint or not. Whether you clean the vent yourself or decide to hire a company to clean it out, here is a simple test you can do yourself is to go outside to the vent where your duct vents outside, and pull of the vent cover if you have one. Next, get a very bright flashlight and shine it inside. If you have any accumulation of lint in the vent, you will see it covering the duct. Also, the outside of the vent cover may be covered in lint as well. This is an indication you need your dryer vent cleaned out.
Another option is to give us a call at 701-306-7026 if you are in the Fargo-Moorhead area. We will come out for free and inspect your dryer and vent, and if you wish, provide you with a video inspection of the inside of your dryer vent ductwork.
The photo below is from just one dryer vent duct. This is a fire waiting to happen, don’t let it happen to you.

should lint blow outside from dryer vent into yard? We have a new house that is sound with no holes, are mice getting threw outside vent?because we dont have a cover?
Thanks for your comment Kathy. Your dryer vent should have a cover, and the dryer should blow freely to the outside. Turn your dryer on, if you cannot see that it is blowing freely to the outside, chances are it is clogged. Without a cover, mice could get in the dryer vent duct, as well as birds. This is a nice warm spot for critters, but causes a very bad fire hazard. The way to find out is to have an inspection done and see if there is any blockage.
John, thank you so much for your input. We did get a giant clog out of the vent, just like your picture. Hopefully we will get results from the dryer. How often should a person clean the dryer vent? John; you saved us from a fire! Your web site is awesome! I do have a question for you that is “unrelated” to dryers… How do you find the time to get back to all of the emails? Is this web site a full-time job for you? My daughter just published her web site, and she is starting to generate a small revenue just by placing several adds. Do you make money on you website? I would gratly appreciate and “tips” from a webmaster!
Thank you once again!
Kathy
