Cleaning Windows When It Is -15 Below Zero

Perhaps you have wondered how it can be that a company could clean windows, outside, when the weather is very cold?  Dosen’t it just freeze to the windows.  Here in Fargo, ND it is about -15 below zero as I write this.  We do several window cleaning jobs for a variety of clients, and we have discovered and used 2 methods of cleaning when the temps get very cold.

1.  If the temp is around 10-20 degrees ABOVE zero, we use a mixture of 1/2 windshield wiper fluid (Blue) and 1/2 water.  This will work fine and will not freeze to the window as you clean.

2. If the temp is below zero up to 10 degrees ABOVE zero, we use methanol, or RV anti-freeze.  This is about all you can use on windows at those temps.  It will not freeze and does a decent job of cleaning.

So, if you are brave enough to try and tackle a window cleaning job outside when it is -15 below zero, now you know what you will need to do.  Just make sure you wear gloves and don’t slip off the ladder.
